Sorcerer

1977 / 121min / DCP

DIRECTOR: WILLIAM FRIEDKIN

CAST: ROY SCHEIDER, BRUNO CREMER, FRANCISCO RABAL, AMIDOU

This is hardcore: Brooklyn crook Roy Scheider splits town and winds up in the sweaty armpit of South America, taking on a suicide mission to transport volatile nitroglycerine across a rugged, pitiless jungle with fellow hard-up hard cases Bruno Cremer and Francisco Rabal. Suffused with otherworldly visuals and a mind-blowing Tangerine Dream score, Friedkin’s film “remakes” Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Wages of Fear like Led Zeppelin “remade” acoustic 1920s blues. Heavy duty.

To accompany Sorcerer, we are presenting an equally nerve-wracking behind-the-wheel masterpiece, Vincente Minnelli’s The Long Long Trailer. Click here for more info.

Sorcerer is screening as part of Metrograph A to Z, a collection of films we think everybody should see. Click here for more info.
