Amy Taubin (writer for Artforum, Film Comment, and 4Columns) will introduce the 9:30pm show on Friday, March 31.
The defining midnight movie of the 21st century, Richard Kelly’s down-the-rabbit-hole mind-bender is a journey through space and time firmly set in a Virginia suburb during the lead-up to the 1988 presidential election, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal as a gloomy teenaged outcast who finds himself under the influence of a six-foot-tall rabbit which encourages him to ever-bolder acts of vandalism in preparation for the end of the world. Lushly swathed in period tunes and featuring, in the form of a Patrick Swayze, an impeccable period performer.
The brand-new 4K restoration was produced by Arrow Films from the original-cut camera negatives and supervised and approved by Richard Kelly and cinematographer Steven Poster.
