Which Way is Up?
DIRECTOR: MICHAEL SCHULTZ
CAST: RICHARD PRYOR, LONETTE MCKEE, MARGARET AVERY, MORGAN WOODWARD
Entering the height of his power and popularity, Richard Pryor did what only Richard Pryor would or could do: Starred in a remake of Lina Wertmüller’s The Seduction of Mimi in a triple role, as Leroy Jones, a California orange picker who stumbles into a prestige position in the labor movement; Leroy’s grizzled father, Rufus; and a reverend who has a little too much love to share with his flock. Pryor’s Car Wash director Schultz keeps the pinball narrative moving, as Leroy moves between worlds—and hops between beds.
Which Way Is Up? is screening as part of the series: Universal in the '70s: Part II
