The Soft Skin
DIRECTOR: FRANçOIS TRUFFAUT
CAST: JEAN DESAILLY, FRANçOISE DORLéAC, NELLY BENEDETTI, DANIEL CECCALDI
Jean Desailly’s married literary critic has a casual fling with a stewardess (Francoise Dorléac) on a reading tour in Lisbon, but when he keeps the affair going back home in Paris, he risks discovery by wife Nelly Benedetti. Working from a newspaper clipping about a true-crime incident, Truffaut’s intention was to document the little banalities of contemporary infidelity, and the result is a gem that is as much of a masterpiece as the three that preceded it (The 400 Blows, Shoot the Piano Player, and Jules and Jim).
