DIRECTOR: LECH KOWALSKI

CAST: JOHN SPACELY, STEVEN SHINGLES, CLAUDE DU SORBIER

An ace character study that doubles as a time capsule of the mean streets and shooting galleries of Alphabet City c. 1984, Kowalski’s verite docudrama stars real-deal heroin addict and eye-patched, skateboarding glorious wreck John Spacely going through the paces of scoring and shooting up. Brutal, tender, and in its final images of Spacely skating through lower Manhattan, ultimately transcendent. Kowalski has made a series of great films (Rock Soup, D.O.A., East of Paradise) that form a cycle of some of the best work by any contemporary filmmaker.
