DIRECTOR: JOHN FORD

CAST: CLAIRE TREVOR, JOHN WAYNE, JOHN CARRADINE, ANDY DEVINE, THOMAS MITCHELL

Before Orson Welles started on Citizen Kane, he ran Ford’s criminally-entertaining Western on loop, an all-in-one film school. Ford’s film, the first of his to shoot in Monument Valley, initiated the cycle of Westerns
for which he’s revered, and gave a star-making dolly shot introduction to John Wayne, leading a peerless ensemble that includes vile banker Burton Churchill, intemperate doctor Thomas Mitchell, and lady-of-the-night Claire Trevor, who lights off with Duke to be “saved from the blessings of civilization.”
