DIRECTOR: ROBERT ALDRICH

CAST: BURT LANCASTER, JEAN PETERS, CHARLES BRONSON

The first of four films that Aldrich would make with the always-vigorous Burt Lancaster, who here plays the real-life historical figure of Massai, an unbowed Apache warrior who continues a one-man campaign against whites and the apathy of his own subjugated people in 1880s New Mexico. An early statement of principles from Aldrich, who struggled throughout his career to control his own destiny, and a work with great empathy for the plight of the Native American.
