Why We Fight: The Battle of Russia
DIRECTOR: FRANK CAPRA & ANATOLE LITVAK
With the war on, Frank Capra and Army Chief of Staff George C. Marshall cooked up the Why We Fight films as a belated American counterpoint to powerful Axis propaganda. The fifth film in the series, co-directed with a likewise-uncredited Anatole Litvak, The Battle of Russia endeavored to show the struggle of the Soviets against Nazi invasion, from the brutal Siege of Leningrad to the morale-boosting Battle of Stalingrad.
Restored by UCLA Film & Television Archive, with funding from the Packard Humanities Institute.
