Harlan County, U.S.A.
DIRECTOR: BARBARA KOPPLE
Harlan County, U.S.A. will screen four times only.
The 7pm screening on February 17 will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Barbara Kopple and a musical performance by Jack Morris, son of Appalachian singer David Morris. David Morris’ original music appears in the film.
When a few score coal miners and their wives stood up against the collected might of the Eastover Coal Company in southeastern Kentucky, documentarian Barbara Kopple was on the ground and right in the thick of the pickets, recording the Brookside Strike in this rough-and-ready boots-on-the-ground classic which lets working people tell their own story, and asks in no uncertain terms: Which side are you on?
Harlan County, U.S.A. was preserved in 2004 by The Women's Film Preservation Fund of New York Women in Film and Television and The Academy Film Archive.
