La Bague du roi Koda illustrates a Djerma legend about a capricious king who tries the loyalty of two of his subjects, a husband and wife, with a cruel test. Aouré, Alassane’s first film, shows the married life of a married Zharma couple on the Niger River’s banks. Bon Voyage Sim imagines an uprising against the corrupt leader of a “toad republic,” the frog being a favorite figure of Alassane’s. Le Retour d’un Aventurier imagines a Wild West on the savanna, satirizing the rise of consumerism among postcolonial Africans. Les Cowboys sont noirs is Moati’s film on the filming of Le Retour d’un Aventurier.

Le Retour d’un Aventurier was restored in 4K in 2019 by CNC, in collaboration with Institut Français and Argos Films at L’Image Retrouvée laboratory from the original 16mm negative.
