Dial M for Murder

1954 / 105min / 3D DCP

DIRECTOR: ALFRED HITCHCOCK

CAST: RAY MILLAND, GRACE KELLY

Hitchcock was ambivalent about the 3D process, but that didn’t keep him from making peerless use of it in this adaptation of a popular stage play nail-biter, which finds former tennis star Ray Milland plotting the perfect murder for two-timing wife Grace Kelly—perfect except for the fact that she fails to die, leaving him to improvise an insidious frame-up job. Made at the end of the short-lived 3D craze, Dial M has rarely been seen in the format in which it was shot, but our screening shows Hitchcock’s ingenuity in composing death in depth, with the film’s famous scissor-snipping-through-the-screen scene.
