There’s never been a more ruthless politician than Tracy Flick. Election, directed and co-written by Alexander Payne, is about a truly brutal student council election in suburban Omaha—one that threatens to destroy the lives of both the teenage candidates and the teacher responsible for counting the votes (an increasingly pathetic Matthew Broderick). The Oscar-nominated script is witty and vicious, a black comedy that satirizes both American presidential politics and high school drama. Reese Witherspoon’s Tracy is the single-minded sociopath at the center, a fanatical overachiever who goes to some very dark places in her quest for power.

Screening in Leon Neyfakh's Dream Double Feature.
