As members of a Weather Underground-like militant group back in the ‘70s, Annie and Arthur Pope blew up a napalm laboratory for peace—and accidentally killed an innocent janitor in the process. When we catch up with the fugitive couple at the end of the ‘80s, the no-longer-young Popes, played by Christine Lahti and Judd Hirsch, have gotten almost used to being on the lam. Their fiery radicalism has cooled, though visitor L.M. Kit Carson drops in to stir up the ashes, while their son, Danny (River Phoenix, in one of the key performances of his too-short career), is trying to face the future without a past and pursuing a blossoming relationship with his piano teacher's daughter (Martha Plimpton).
Griffin Dunne will no longer be able to attend.
