DIRECTOR: HARMONY KORINE
CAST: CHLOË SEVIGNY, LINDA MANZ
In Xenia, Ohio—in fact the outskirts of Korine’s native Nashville—a cast of aimless no-hoper kids and burnout adults pass empty hours by chasing sex, riding bikes, getting high, and killing cats for cash. Populated largely by nonprofessionals (exceptions include Chloë Sevigny and cult Out of the Blue actress Linda Manz) and scored to savage Norwegian Black Metal, Korine’s directorial debut is an act of cinematic vandalism, a rare, raw slab of outsider art chucked at the polite art house, and an elliptical, one-of-a-kind mixture of (sub)urban legend, pseudo-documentary confoundment, and sordid snapshots from backwater America.
