DIRECTOR: GEORGE CUKOR

CAST: CONSTANCE BENNETT, LOWELL SHERMAN

Cukor came into his own at RKO under Selznick, who recognized the young director’s talent and put him to work on some of the studio’s most promising properties. Among them was this unparalleled Hollywood tragedy, a precursor to the different versions of A Star is Born, in which the press runs roughshod over an up-and-coming starlet, played by Constance Bennett, whose ascent from Brown Derby waitress to toast-of-the-town contrasts with the dissolute downfall of mentor director Lowell Sherman.

Screening as a part of Produced by David O. Selznick.
