Maybe you’ve heard of it? The blockbuster to end all blockbusters, adapted from Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 novel, is a movie as big and brazen and complicated as America itself, a tale of troubled romance set against the backdrop of the American Civil War and Reconstruction. With Vivien Leigh as willful Georgia belle Scarlett O’Hara; Leslie Howard as her male paragon, unfortunately married to cousin Olivia de Havilland; and Clark Gable as the bull-necked suitor who, frankly, doesn’t give a damn. George Cukor, Sam Wood, and Victor Fleming all had a hand in directing, but the mastermind behind the whole thing was Selznick himself.

Screening as a part of Produced by David O. Selznick.
