The Year of the Cannibals
DIRECTOR: LILIANA CAVANI
CAST: BRITT EKLAND, PIERRE CLEMENTI , TOMAS MILIAN
Revolution as Theater: The New Left was in full flower and Italy in turmoil when Liliana Cavani shot a hippie version of Sophocles’s Antigone guerrilla-style in central Milan. She called her film a “happening,” which is one way to describe the sequence in which, wrapped in sheets, Antigone (future Bond girl Britt Ekland) and Tiresias (Pierre Clémenti) are pursued by the army and wind up naked in church.
Screening in the series Everything Was Now.
