DIRECTOR: LEWIS GILBERT

CAST: SEAN CONNERY, AKIKO WAKABAYASHI, DONALD PLEASENCE

Sean Connery’s fifth outing as 007 finds the pride of Her Majesty’s Secret Service faking his own death, then heading to Japan to rendezvous with Toho Studios starlets Mie Hama and Akiko Wakabayashi and Japanese secret service big Tetsurō Tamba, who introduces Bond to the ninja arts he’ll need to penetrate the secret island base of the nefarious SPECTRE. The screenplay comes courtesy of Roald Dahl who, faced with what he considered “Ian Fleming’s worst book,” more or less started from scratch, in the process creating one of the best-loved Bond outings, and a delicious, unforgettable villain in the character of Donald Pleasance’s Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
