Weddings and Babies
DIRECTOR: MORRIS ENGEL
CAST: VIVECA LINDFORS, JOHN MYHERS
Weddings and Babies, a portrait of a photographer’s fraught attempts to balance his art, his responsibilities towards his elderly, restless Italian immigrant mother, and his life with Swedish girlfriend Viveca Lindfors, was, per Richard Leacock, “the first theatrical motion picture to make use of a fully mobile, synchronous sound-and-picture system.” A deeply-felt depiction of the very real tumult of a relationship vying for attention with professional obligations, including vivid street scenes shot in Greenwich Village, Little Italy, and Queens.
Weddings and Babies is screening as part of Morris Engel 100.
