DIRECTOR: JOHN HUSTON
CAST: MONTGOMERY CLIFT, SUSANNAH YORK, LARRY PARKS
Introduced by Rachel Weisz and Hilton Als.
Montgomery Clift, in a curious but ultimately inspired piece of casting that would be his penultimate performance, brings sorrowful intensity to the part of the Viennese head-shrinker, his journeys into the subconscious given an air that’s part noir procedural, part supernatural horror movie by cinematographer Douglas Slocombe. One of Huston’s most ambitious and misunderstood projects, which began life as a collaboration with Jean-Paul Sartre.
