DIRECTOR: SAMUEL FULLER
CAST: KRISTY MCNICHOL, CHRISTA LANG, VERNON WEDDLE
Unseen for years after being shelved by Paramount, White Dog is the movie that ended Fuller’s Hollywood career with a howl of indignation. Based on Romain Gary’s “non-fiction novel,” the film uses the story of the attempted rehabilitation of a white German shepherd trained to attack at the sight of black skin, discovered by aspiring actress Kristy McNichol, confronted for deprogramming by black animal trainer Paul Winfield, as an opening to address the seemingly insoluble but absolutely urgent issue of all-American race hate.
Rare archival print of the director’s cut.
