DIRECTOR: CHARLIE CHAPLIN

CAST: CHARLIE CHAPLIN, MERNA KENNEDY, AL ERNEST GARCIA

The Tramp, on the run from the cops, hides out in the circus and takes up the art of clowning, along the way falling in love with a bareback rider. Chaplin’s follow-up to The Gold Rush offers up the pure distillation of his genius as a pantomime artist, functioning as both a meditation on the nature of comic performance and a (premature, as it happens) goodbye to the silent cinema.
