CAST: HUMPHREY BOGART, GLORIA GRAHAME , FRANK LOVEJOY

Hollywood is a city of glitz and easy money, but frequently-soused, violence prone screenwriter Dix Steele (Humphrey Bogart) sees little of either, prowling the nightspots seeking solitary young women and getting belligerently blotto. Dix seems to have a fair shot at domestic redemption when he becomes involved with a simpatico neighbor, Laurel Gray (Gloria Grahame), but when he finds himself the focus of a murder investigation, Laurel can’t help but suspect Dix herself.

In a Lonely Place is adapted from Dorothy B. Hughes’ novel of the same name, now back in print from NYRB Classics with an afterword by acclaimed crime fiction author Megan Abbott and available in the Metrograph Bookstore.
